More to See
Take a stroll around the Harbour Quay with its many attractions, and you'll see the historic Banfield Lifeboat. This boat was based at the Canadian Coast Guard Station at Bamfield where it answered marine distress calls from 1951 until 1969. She is a wooden-hulled, diesel-powered surf boat, with a keel containing 1800 pounds of bronze which enables her to right herself in heavy seas.
Examine this vessel up close and explore the accompanying display to find out why the boat is called Banfield and the community Bamfield, how life saving services were finally brought to the treacherous west coast, and more details about saving lives on the coast.
