How to Find Us

Port Alberni is on the West Coast of central Vancouver Island. To reach Port Alberni from Victoria, take the #1/19 Island Highway heading north. You can bypass Nanaimo and Coombs by staying on #19, then take the highway #4 West turnoff to Port Alberni. Highway #4 will take you into Port Alberni via Johnston Road.

• From Vancouver:  If you are coming from Vancouver, take the ninety-five minute ferry ride across the Georgia Strait to Nanaimo. Stay on the #19 Island Highway heading north, then take the #4 West.


• The Alberni Pacific Railway is on Kingsway Avenue at Argyle Street near Harbour Quay. Turn left coming into Port Alberni (at the Visitor Information Centre) and follow Redford Street to the bottom. Turn left on 3rd Avenue. About five blocks further is Kingsway on your right and the Train Station is about four blocks further and will be on your right.



• The McLean Mill National Historic Site is 8 kilometres northwest of Port Alberni. Coming into the City stay on Johnston Road. Turn right at the Victoria Quay intersection towards Sproat Lake/Highway #4. Shortly after the intersection, take a right onto Beaver Creek Road. Follow Beaver Creek Road for approximately 6 kilometres. Turn right at Smith Road and follow the road past the train tracks. You will come to the parking lot on the left.


• The Alberni Valley Museum is located in Echo Centre, 4255 Wallace Street. As you are coming into Port Alberni, take the left fork at the Visitors Information Centre. Continue along Redford Street until you come to 10th Avenue. Turn right onto 10th and follow it 3 blocks and turn right on Wallace St. You'll see the museum banners.


• The Maritime Discovery Centre is just south of Harbour Quay which is at the foot of Argyle Street. Take the left turn coming into Port Alberni (at the Visitor Information Centre) and follow Redford Street right to the bottom. Turn left on 3rd Avenue. About five blocks further is Kingsway on your right, Argyle Street is just past the Train Station about four blocks further. Turn right and then take the next left on the Industrial Road. You'll see the Discovery Centre off to your right about 500 metres along.
